First group of Bangladeshi workers lands in Malaysia

The first group of foreign workers from Bangladesh has arrived and will be employed in the manufacturing sector, says Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (pic).

However, he did not mention the number of workers from Bangladesh who arrived yesterday morning.

“Workers from Bangladesh are expected to arrive in Malaysia in stages beginning today (yesterday).

“Last week, the Bangladesh High Commission had attested applications for workers from 80 employers involving 6,000 Bangladeshis,” he said in a statement.

Saravanan said employers planning to hire workers from Bangladesh and had already made levy payments to the Immigration Department can apply for employment attestation with the Bangladesh High Commission.

On July 15, the ministry said that the recruitment process for Bangladeshi workers could begin after technical issues were resolved.

In December last year, Malaysia and Bangladesh signed an MOU on the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia, effective until December 2026.
